Seattle Reign FC Mobile App Concept

OVERVIEW

The Seattle Reign FC is an American professional women's soccer team based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 2012, it was one of eight inaugural members of the National Women's Soccer League.

The goal of this personal project was to identify missing content that would further enhance the existing app’s usability.

I forgot my ticket again. I need to go back home and get it. Why can’t the app just have digital tickets?!

Background

I am a season ticket holder with the Seattle Reign FC. I love attending matches and watching the women play fiercely and whole-heartedly, leaving nothing on pitch.

As each new season begins, a new roster is formed. After trades and acquisitions, I wanted to be able to access more info on the players. Their website, while it does house some of the information, is not the best avenue to do your research as it is annoyingly not mobile-friendly.

Research

The current app only houses the schedule for the season. So I didn’t need to completely reinvent the wheel. I would love to expand on that and create a utility app that all the fans can use. What I did need was to figure out what all I wanted to add to the app to make it the utility app I was seeking.

In no particular order, I came up with these sections:

  • The latest news & information about the Reign FC

  • View and purchase tickets on your device

  • Score and game stats

  • NWSL standings

  • Shop the latest merchandise

  • Team roster and bios

  • Season schedule

  • Subsidiaries: Camps & Training, Academy

After placing the sections in their appropriate buckets for my navigation, I quickly went away to sketching out wireframes. Unfortunately, those were accidentally misplaced and lost to the ether.

Solution

Once I figured out all the content I wanted, doing the UX and Design was quick. I was so into this side project that I completed the UX, Design and Prototyping in two days! All the content I used for the design was pulled from a variety of sources that are readily available online.

In the video, the prototype shows how a user may navigate through to see all the content discovered in the research phase that would help amplify the use of the app. Most importantly, to me, was the addition of being able to purchase and then have the digital ticket available on your phone.
